PAX!
Renewing our faith in the Risen Christ, in whom we place our certainty and our hope, we announce with emotion and gratitude that on 23 August 2024, at 12.30 pm (local time), at the infirmary of the Mother House, Voghera (Pavia) Italy, the heavenly Groom has welcomed into his arms
SISTER MARIANGELA TOMASI
Province Giustina and Maria Schiapparoli
at 94 years of age and with 61 years of Religious Profession
Sister Mariangela (Mary) was born in Gottolengo (Breschia) Italy, on October 25, 1929. Maria got to know our Congregation through her parish priest Don Pietro Merigo.
She entered the Congregation on 8 September 1960. Sr. Tranquilla Madama, then local Superior, welcomed her. She was Superior General Mother Emanuele Bonacina. On 14 August 1961 she took the religious habit and received the name Mariangela in honor of her father Angelo and her mother Angela.
Her novitiate Mistress was Sister Alessandrina Uboldi. On 14 August 1963, in the midst of the Second Vatican Council, she made her first Religious Profession, in the Chapel of the Mother House, Voghera (Pavia) Italy, together with her six other companions: Andreina, Chiarina, Cleta, Anselmina, Zita and Dores.
Sister Mariangela was a person of prayer, serene, welcoming and available. She was able to develop her talents with determination and wisdom by making them available in the mission entrusted to her, especially among the children to whom she generously gave herself in the school and in the oratories since 1964.
She was a passionate and infectious nun. In fact, on the occasion of the 1st Centenary (1969) of the Vespolate School, Sister Mariangela received a diploma of recognition. Later, the parents of the Corbetta nursery school, on the occasion of her transfer, expressed themselves as follows:
Sister Mariangela together with sr. Alma, have been able to carry on the management of the parish kindergarten and the women’s oratory for 9 years, with enormous efforts and sacrifices. They did it and to say excellent is an understatement. It’s truly a winning copy.
Yes, she enjoyed childcare. Who doesn’t recently remember Sr. Mariangela in the corridors and courtyards of the Holy Family school in Voghera or in the sacristy of the Mother House?
Sister Mariangela, serene and smiling, lived her consecration as she herself said:
I am certain that with the help of the Lord I will be able to live my complete donation in generosity.
Having weakened considerably since 2021, she was part of the community in the infirmary of the Mother House, cared for with love and generosity by the nursing nuns and the employees serving.
In the hands of Divine Providence she lived the ordeal of her life in profound silence from 2023, until the morning of this day, August 23, 2024, when she silently abandoned herself in the arms of the Father.
Dear Sister Mariangela, we will miss you!! Thank you for your generosity, for your testimony of abandonment to Divine Providence in that mysterious and profound silence.
Her funeral will be celebrated on Monday 26 August at 9.45 am, with Holy Mass, in the Chapel of mother house – Voghera (Pavia) Italy and she will be buried in the Voghera (Pavia) Cemetery.
In fraternal communion of prayer, united with all the Sisters of the “Giustina and Maria Schiapparoli” Province, with the children and students of the school, with the family and friends, we entrust our Sr. Mariangela to her beloved Jesus.
“Stay in my love.” (Jn 15:9b)
REST IN THE PEACE OF THE LORD!
