SISTER GIULIA SIBONI
Mother Province of Divine Providence
95 years old and 70 years of Religious Profession
Sister Giulia (Maria) was born in Pavia (Pavia) Italy, in December 28, 1928. Maria Siboni met the Benedictine Sisters of the Divine Providencia in Pavia, in her native land, in the Gandini College, our Primary School and Child Education Center where many children and young university students attended.
Her mother only allowed her to join the Congregation after her 25 years, where she happened to be. The young woman obeyed and chose her birthday’s day to enter the Congregation. Her family and friends accompanied her to her entrance to the Congregation in February 1953. She took a branch of white flowers and told her mother: if you can’t, the flowers will be necessary.
In Voghera she was captured by the Sister Cesarina Simonetti, local superior of the Mother House, Voghera (Pavia) Italy. The novice Mistress was Sister Alessandrina Uboldi. She was Superior General, of which Mother Giovanna Zonca.
She did her religious profession on 7 August 1954 in the Chapel of the Mother House of Voghera, Italy.
Sister Giulia, from the beginning of her religious life, showed a strong love for her neighbor and for the Congregation.
Immediately after her Religious Profession, starting in 1954, she taught at the Centre of Education Infantil in Voghera, in Pietra dei Giorgi (Milan) and Dorno.
Feeling called to the missionary life, she accepted the invitation and left to Brazil. As she learned the language and, in complete dominion, she was appointed Treasurer of the Society of Education and Charity, based in Osasco (Saint Paul) Brazil. She remained there for 21 years. She was the first provincial Bursar of the Brazilian Province.
In 1988, with the election of the Sister Clara Venturini in the general Government, Sister Giulia was appointed general Bursar. In Rome, as well as her work in her economy, she broadened her acquaintances and became friends with her neighbors. Today I would still remember it with love.
In 2007, to finalize her stage as general Bursar, she was transferred to Voghera where she remained for one month. This same year she returned to Brazil and was incorporated into the Mother Province of Divine Providence.
Thus, since 2007 she has been part of the community of the Saint Camilo of Imbituba Hospital, working in the administration and accounting department, engaging with joy both inside the house and among people, being admired and loved by many people. She remained there until 2015, the year in which her health began to deteriorate.
On June 5, 2020, after the Hospital’s donation to the Camilians, she had no chance of abandoning her surroundings and she continued to form part of the new community, house Madre Giovanna Zonca in Vila Sister Nelcy Rigoni always stayed by her side, looking after her day and night.
In 2023 she was moved to Casa Saint Joseph of Nova Veneza (Santa Catarina) Brazil.
Her friendly and attentive presence revealed the richness of her heart and her ability to love and smile, even when struck by a stroke she only repeated the refrain “St. Mary, St. Mary…” She liked to hear the news of the Congregation and the Church and she affirmed everything with a beautiful smile, repeating “St. Mary, St. Mary…”
This morning, in full General Chapter, here in Nova Veneza (Santa Catarina) Brazil, on her seat, at 9:15, Jesus comes to collect her beautiful and beautiful flower, taking her advice. Sister Giulia, we will hear from you! Pray with you St. Mary so that we remain loyal, you who have participated so many times in the Chapters and know the depth of the moment.
We thank the Lord for the precious gift that you received for us, for the Church and for the many friends you met during your beautiful and notable mission.
The funeral will be celebrated on July 28, 2024, at 7 hours, in the Chapel of the Instituto Sagrada Familia, Nova Veneza (Santa Catarina) Brazil and the entire funeral will follow in the city’s cemetery.
In fraternal communion of prayer and unity with the sisters of the Mother Province of Divine Providence, family members and friends, we commend Sister Giulia in the hands of Saint Mary so that she would take her to Jesus, I loved her.
“You are my darling”
REPOSE IN THE PEACE OF THE LORD!
