PAX!
Renewing our faith in the Risen Christ, in which we place our certainty and our hope, we announce with emotion and gratitude that on May 14 2024, at 4.00 pm (local time), at the Hospital Santa Casa de Vinhedo (São Paulo) Brazil, The Heavenly groom welcomed her in his arms,
SISTER PIERINA COPETTI
Province of Divine Providence
at 89 years of age and with 69 years of Religious Profession
Sister Pierina, was born in Urussanga, Santa Catarina, Brazil, on 8 August 1934. Pierina, from birth has breathed the deep faith of her large family and still young, she decided to enter the congregation, attracted by Jesus and her own elder sisters, two of which were already part of our Congregation.
Parents Giuseppe and Antonia generously donated to the Lord – through religious consecration – five of their daughters: Sr. Gemma, Sr. Antonia, Sr. Teresa, Sr. Amalia and Sr. Pierina. Pierina, still young, in 1949 she became part of the Nova Veneza (Santa Catarina) community and in 1954 she entered the novitiate. At the time Giovanna Zonca was the general superior. The name of Sister Lourdes was given to her in honor of our lady and the Marian year. Her novitiate mistress was Sister Beniamina Carboni and her godmother Sr. Faustina Oldani. She had her first Religious Profession on 6 January 1955 in the Chapel of the Sacred Family Institute of Nova Veneza (Santa Catarina) Brazil.
Sister Pierina was a person of a lot of prayer, serene, welcoming and helpful. She has been able to develop her qualities with determination and wisdom by placing them in the relevant mission. She had great love for the congregation.
She held the assignment of local superior, of principal and school secretary; she was also catechist and assistant of children and adolescents. In all the numerous communities and works in which she has passed in her long years of religious consecration, she left traces of a serene presence: Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro), Osasco (São Paulo), Santa Rosa de Viterbo (São Paulo), Foz do Iguaçu (Paraná). The last few years has been in the “Ciranda” Infantile Education Center in Santo André (São Paulo) from 2016 to 2023.
In this mission she has worked tirelessly, leaving a great testimony of incomparable generosity, both with the sisters of her community and children and the persons who attended the work.
In Sister Pierina she could not raise her voice to be obeyed; When it happened in some classes or in some rather noisy school environments, it was enough to nod with the boss or hand and everyone calmed down. She welcomed with serenity and spirit of service her latest transfer for the year 2024 to the Community of Lar São José in Campos Gerais (Minas Gerais), where she remained only a few months, due to the suddenly aggravation of her physical situation and the need to do Some medical exams.
Notably weakened even due to advanced tumor, doctors were able to do only palliative treatment, no longer having anything to do to treat the disease. With great spirit of faith and sacrifice, characteristics of all her life, welcomed in silence and prayer the diagnosis that had communicated to her, delivering herself in the hands of Divine Providence and greeting with gratitude treatment and attention also by the Vinhedo’s sister, who accompanied her in her latest and intense ordeal.
Her last days she spent at the Santa Casa di Vinhedo (São Paulo) hospital and yesterday, May 14, 2024, at 4:00 pm, Jesus called her to give her the promised award for loyal servants.
Her life, rooted in Christ, leaves all of us the certainty that is giving that it is received and that it is worth expending to the end for the Kingdom of God.
Dear Sr. Pierina, we will miss you! Thank you for your generosity, for your testimony to abandon the divine Providence.
The funeral will be celebrated, on 15 May 2024, with the Holy Mass, at 10.30 am in the Chapel of the Residencial Divina Providênčia house – Vinhedo (São Paulo) Brazil and the burial, at 2 pm, in the cemetery das Acácias, a Valinhos – São Paulo.
In fraternal communion of prayer, together with all the sisters of the Province of Divine Providence, to the children welcomed, to the former students, to the family and to friends, we entrust our Sr. Pierina to her beloved Jesus.
“Misericordias Domini, in aeternum cantabo”
